Overview:
Under Mayor Duterte’s leadership, Davao City pioneered several ordinances aimed at environmental conservation, public health, and urban cleanliness.

Key Initiatives:

  • Smoke-Free Davao Ordinance: Strict enforcement of anti-smoking laws in public places, including terminals, schools, and workplaces.

  • Plastic Ban: Regulation of single-use plastics in public markets and grocery stores.

  • Waste Management: Citywide campaigns for segregation, recycling, and community cleanliness drives.

  • Firecracker Ban: Reduced fire and injury incidents during the holidays.

Impact:

  • Recognized as one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the Philippines.

  • Improved air quality and public health.

  • Davao became a benchmark for other LGUs (Local Government Units) pursuing sustainable city management.
